Communication is the heart and soul of the Ageless Nomad’s unconventional lifestyle

Communication skills help us build both real and virtual communities around us, where ever we are, regardless of what we are doing. Communication skills help us become successful travelers, successful new residents and are extremely important for anyone wanting to become a successful online entrepreneurs to understand.

In the online environment with it’s millions and millions of websites and blogs, even if you get the topic perfect, build an ideal website that overflows with top notch content including pictures, audio and video — if no one knows the site is there, you will not be able to develop a successful online business. Instead, you will be spending your time developing an online hobby, which is great if that is your goal.

The thing about online communications is that it is still a moving target — just as you think you have things figured out, the rules change. New media become popular and old media (the one’s you have put all of your time and effort into) are no longer relevant.

It was only a year or two ago that bloggers and other content creators were being told that in order to create a successful online business that readers could find you had to Search Engine Optimize all online content. You had to find keywords and keyphrases by analyzing search engine data and then create content that highlighted these keywords so that they attracted search engine bots (but not so much as to keep the bots away). This was quite the challenge, especially when it had to be done for every post and page!!

Recently, however, increasing numbers of online content creators have been using social media like Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin to successfully connect with readers and peers, establish relationships and build communities. Technorati’s latest research on the Internet reports that less than 40% of bloggers use SEO techniques preferring instead to build communities around various social media.

The reality is that both of these methods (SEO and social media) are available to online entrepreneurs and should be explored as marketing communications venues to help build and maintain online enterprises. Each social media is slightly different from the others so each social media catches different audiences and are effective with specific methods of communications. SEO techniques catch another different audience.

To be truly effective, online entrepreneurs need to know enough about the advantages and disadvantages of these various methods of online marketing communications to be able to hit the correct audience for their content. Not always an easy ask for time starved online entrepreneurs, but well worth the effort.
