FAQ

.

1)    What is a Ageless Nomad?
Traditionally, and historically, a nomad was a wanderer; a person, or a family group, or a tribe who spent a good deal of their life traveling.  Travels for these nomads were generally driven by changing seasons, or changing labour markets. Location was a critical aspect of their lifestyle, at least in terms of needing to be at a specific location at a specific time in order to earn a living.

Modern nomads are no longer held to this constraint and tend to follow location independent lifestyle.

Bleeding Heart

. Where they live is irrelevant. Far more important is the ideal that the work they do can be done completely from a virtual location, generally using the Internet and modern media to earn a living. And the living they earn is at least sufficient to support their chosen lifestyle.

Modern nomads are ageless. They cover all age ranges from recent grads to 70 and 80 year olds. Using the Internet and social media, modern nomads develop fairly unique lifestyles, ones that support their unique personal preferences, passions and lifestyles.

For Baby Boomers, being a Ageless Nomad could mean having the freedom to work (if they chose to work) at home in an urban environment during the winter and then at the lakefront cottage during the summer. Or it could mean selling off their home and most of their possessions and buying a boat or an RV so they can spend the next 5, 10, 15 years traveling. Or packing a backpack and heading to Europe, spending 6 months living in a medieval Italian village or in a small rural village in Greece. Once you remove having to be at a specific location in order to work, the lifestyle designs you can create are endless.

For younger individuals, being an Ageless Nomad could mean living an unconventional life full of amazing experiences that you have created for yourself.

2)    What if I need to work? Can I still become a Ageless Nomad?
The great thing about the Internet is that anyone can work from anywhere in the world, if you are Internet literate and you have a skill that can be sold online – and both of these can be learned!!

As the global economy moves further and further into becoming an information-based economy, more and more careers can be made totally location independent. This increase in career flexibility will provide increasing numbers of individuals with the ability to create unconventional career paths that are geared to personal skills, preferences and passions.

3)    Online entrepreneurship sounds great for someone who knows what type of enterprise they want to create. Me, I know that I want to build an online enterprise, but there are so many topics that interest me, I don’t know what I want to focus on!!
Don’t worry, you are not the only one with this problem. I’ve struggled for years trying to focus my attention onto one passion that I could focus on following for years. Couldn’t do it!! I kept bouncing around from interest to another, which has been fun but not tremendously productive.

I’ve recently learned a fantastic trick on how to actually be this kind of person (often referred to as a scanner, or a Renaissance person) and still be productive. This involves two things:

  1. take a look at all of the topics that interest you, is there a common core theme that runs through them – for example, do they involve helping people, or helping animals; do they involve teaching, or educating people; do they involve organizing; are they related to a specific academic discipline, e.g. history, science, health & wellness, wealth creation, etc. Then see if there is a specific audience your interests target: do your interests focus on children; adults with disabilities; baby boomers; environmentalists; academics; etc.
  2. what specific tech skills or business skills should you be developing in order to get your online enterprise up and running? Begin working on developing them.

Once you have a target audience sorted out, define a preliminary topic you want to focus your online business on, and begin building your online presence.  When you find it’s time to switch topics, try to focus on a new topic that still appeals to your original target audience. That way you can build on past marketing successes and don’t have to start all over again.

If your new topic requires you to focus on a new target audience, then there are tricks that you can use that will help you do this without having to start from scratch.
